Hi Richard,
We are new to motorhomes and have a Mitsubishi L300 which a weight of 1800kg.(I would check this at a weighbridge - front and back separately - I think that you will find this a lot more) Put all your travel stuff in the van to get a real travelleing weight. Usually 60% of load is at the rear.
I'm unable to find out about the correct tyres required. (when you have the axle mass, divide by two for single tyre load and refer to the tyre tables on our web. AND, you can see what the correct tyre pressure should be for that load. Too hard or too soft can also give handling problems)
At present I have Goodyear 185R14C 8ply with some stability problems.(This should not have a over-load problem)
A friend's unit, he is also new, has 205/70R14C 8ply. He reckons his runs like a train?????

Hi Hans - Experience is the best teacher. If the broader tyre is better at the back, then use it. Sometimes you have fouling of a wider tyre at the front when turning full-lock, which might force you to use the narrower tyre on the front. Some people have added another spring leaf at the rear, as the suspension is running at its design limit. Chat with fellow L-300 owner at rallies, as this can also be a useful source of information. There are these clamp-on half-leaves and air-bags, but I am not a great fan of these alterations. See also my comments in red below
